For more details on this graph, see <a href=\"https:\/\/sotb2017.wpenginepowered.com\/resources\/methods\/\">Methods<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Farm Bill Conservation Programs Reverse Bird Population Declines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After two decades of declines, wetland bird populations grew dramatically\u2014and forest and grassland birds stabilized\u2014following the introduction of key Farm Bill conservation programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The graph shows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Strong increases for wetland birds:&nbsp;<\/strong>Before wetland easements were added to the Farm Bill in 1990, populations were down 10%.&nbsp;After 1990, wetland bird numbers rose by 51%<\/li><li><strong>A turnaround for forest birds:&nbsp;<\/strong>Before the forestry title was added to the Farm Bill in 1990, forest birds were on a declining trend and down by 19%.&nbsp;After 1990, the decline leveled off and then rose slightly, by 3%<\/li><li><strong>Stabilized the sharp decline of grassland birds:&nbsp;<\/strong>Long-term declines had reached 34% by the time the Conservation Reserve Program began in 1985.
